Oscar Noms: Quick Thoughts
The Oscar nominations were announced this morning. “Benjamin Button” led the field with 13, though “Slumdog Millionaire” is still the favorite to win Best Picture. Since “The Reader” got a surprise nom for Best Picture, Kate Winslet (pictured) better start preparing her acceptance speech for Best Actress, since it looks like that movie has the broad Academy support necessary for her to win. The fact that “The Dark Knight” didn’t score a Best Picture nom will probably depress the ratings for the telecast on February 22. I was surprised that Sally Hawkins didn’t get a Best Actress nom for “Happy-Go-Lucky.” More thoughts later.
Not a good day to be Scott Rudin.
