Modine To Star in “Mockingbird”
If I had to choose a sentimental favorite among all American novels, it would have to be Harper Lee’s “To Kill A Mockingbird.” And so you can bet I will be making a trek to Hartford, Connecticut later this winter, when the Hartford Stage presents the stage adaptation of the book, directed by Michael Wilson. Film star Matthew Modine (pictured) will portray Atticus Finch, and the production will also feature several members of Horton Foote’s recent Broadway hit, “Dividing the Estate,” which will transfer to Hartford in the spring. Foote did the screenplay for the magnificent 1962 movie “Mockingbird,” and he will be giving a free talk Monday, January 12, at Hartford Stage about the film, about Harper Lee, and about whatever else is on his mind. Speaking of Miss Lee, here’s a reprise of LemonWade’s recent account of her meeting in Monroeville, Alabama with Patricia Neal and Joel Vig.
