Latest: Casting For “My Fair Lady”

keira2danieldaylewisEmma Thompson announced last summer that she was writing a screenplay for a remake of “My Fair Lady” and that it would be based in part on the foreword and afterword of Shaw’s “Pygmalion,” which was the musical’s source material. When Thompson broke her news, there was some serious talk about casting the remake. LemonWade’s very well-placed spies today are saying that Keira Knightley (pictured) is definitely still very much in the running to play Eliza, but that Daniel Day-Lewis (pictured) has not warmed to overtures from producer Cameron Mackintosh to play Henry Higgins. Can you think of anyone who’d be better as Higgins than Daniel Day? Me, neither. But the actor has just finished a long and quite grueling shoot of the movie version of “Nine,” and apparently isn’t interested in doing another musical soon. Of course, all this could change once Thompson finishes her script and Day-Lewis reads it.
