Morris Wins Battle of the Nuts

For the second year in a row, Mark Morris’s version of “The Nutcracker,” known as “The Hard Nut” (pictured), won the Ovation television channel’s bake-off to determine which version of the holiday classic is “best.” Morris won 42 percent of viewers’ votes. My favorite “Nutcracker,” by George Balanchine, scored only 2 percent. But let’s not confuse popularity with quality; if that were the case, “Titanic” is the best movie of all time and “American Idol” is the best show on TV. I don’t think so. Oh, and, by the way, the Morris “Hard Nut” will be broadcast all throughout the night tonight on Ovation, starting at 8 pm EST.
