Hickey Joins “Mary Stuart” Cast
Â
When Schiller’s play “Mary Stuart” was revived in London in 2005, it received fulsome praise. Now, this production, directed by Phyllida Lloyd (who must be the wealthiest woman in the theatre, from her direction of “Mamma Mia!”), is coming to Broadway in the spring. Its two stars, — Harriet Walter (the Protestant Queen Elizabeth) and Janet McTeer (the Catholic Queen Mary), both of whom are pictured — will be making the trip to New York. LemonWade is pleased to report that they will be joined by John Benjamin Hickey (pictured), as the Earl of Leicester. Hickey, well-known for his wonderful performances on Broadway in “Cabaret” and “Love! Valour! Compassion!”, has been away from Gotham for too long, enjoying the sunnier weather (and sunnier show-biz salaries) of Los Angeles. “I’m thrilled to be doing this play,” Hickey told me yesterday when I bumped into him on the street. Looks as if the ensemble will also include Brian Murray, Maria Tucci, and Chandler Williams.
