“A Little Night Music” Opens

“A Little Night Music” is my favorite Sondheim musical, which is why I’m in a continual state of peeve-ment that this 1973 show has never been revived on Broadway. It’s been done in every other place around the world over the past 35 years, but never on the Great White Way. Given the mostly strong bag of reviews (here and here) for the show’s new London production, directed by Trevor Nunn and featuring Grace Link and Maureen Lipman (pictured), we may see this rendition cross the pond, as we have with so many other recent Broadway Sondheims recently — “Sweeney Todd,” “Sunday in the Park.” Am I the only one getting a little annoyed that London productions of the Master are allowed to dominate in New York?
