“Road Show” To Be Road Show?
The reviews this morning for Sondheim’s “Road Show” in New York are, on balance, mixed. Here’s a round-up of the notices (hint: scroll down). Smart money says that this musical’s fate will be like that of another dark Sondheim/Weidman project: “Assassins.” That is: no immediate Broadway transfer (star Michael Cerveris, pictured, is committed to “Hedda Gabler” in January, anyway), a trip around the regions in various productions, and, ten or twenty years from now, a triumphant arrival on Broadway.
