Caravaggio Paintings Go On Display
Two newly “discovered” paintings by the 17th-century Italian artist Caravaggio are about to go on display for the first time — in Edinburgh, Scotland. The two works, “The Calling of Saints Peter and Andrew” and “Boy Peeling Fruit” (both pictured), were thought to be copies of lost originals but have now been authenticated by experts. In addition to his talent, Carvaggio’s jagged private life has long made him a favorite of writers and filmmakers — there’s a 1986 film about him by Derek Jarman and a more recent one starring the Italian actor (“The Best of Youth”) Alessio Boni.
