Met Opera: Cheers for Obama
Last night Andre Bishop, the artistic director of Lincoln Center Theater, in New York, was at a performance of “Madama Butterfly (pictured),” at the Metropolitan Opera. He tells me: “The entire audience was on cellphones at intermission and at the curtain calls an audience member yelled out ‘Obama Won!’ And the place went crazy.” In other words, you’d have thought Callas had returned to the house. I’m sure the scene at the Met had its parallels at theaters throughout the country.
