Nobel Lit Prize To Le Clezio
Today the Swedish Academy awarded its 2008 Nobel Prize in Literature to French writer Jean-Marie Gustave le Clezio (pictured). Several of his books have been translated into English, and usually published by small presses. He is little known in the United States, even though he has a home in Albuquerque, New Mexico. According to IMDB, two of his works have been turned into films. His reputation in France is very high, but I don’t see the Nobel turning him into a household world in America, which these days tends not to esteem novelists who aren’t approved by Oprah.
