Rushdie Firm About “Satanic”
Author Salman Rushdie (pictured) is making a public appearance tonight in my neighborhood (at Symphony Space) to promote the short story. I’m hoping to attend — the bulk of the evening will be short-story readings by Jane Alexander and Anthony Rapp. I always feel a little nervous for Rushdie when I see him in public; and his latest interview (click here), where he says he is absolutely unrepentant about writing “The Satanic Verses,” is very brave but not calculcated to calm one’s nerves.
