Emmy Awards: A Quick Summary
Well, the undisputed lowpoint of the Emmy broadcast tonight had to be Josh Groban doing a medley of classic TV theme songs — including “MASH”‘s “Suicide is Painless” performed as a Broadway showstopper! At least Groban was sufficiently jaw-dropping to prevent me for a moment from channel-hopping to the finale of Yankee Stadium on ESPN. The Emmy winners were almost all predictable: “30 Rock,” “Mad Men,” “John Adams,” Tina Fey (pictured), Alec Baldwin. Only Bryan Cranston’s win as Best Actor in a Drama Series (“Breaking Bad”) was anything approaching a shocker. I think the broadcast’s ratings will be even lower than last year’s, but since most of the winning shows garner low ratings themselves, maybe that will be appropriate. Complete list of winners here.
