“Rent” Sign Comes Down Tonight
After more than 12 years on Broadway, “Rent” closes today at the Nederlander Theater. To many of us who saw the show early on, off-Broadway, the premiere feels both distant — part of a time when it was still possible, just, to be a poor, struggling artist in Manhattan — and like yesterday. To mark the occasion, the production’s director, Michael Greif, wrote a letter to be included in the playbill tonight for the finale.
