Political Quotation of the Day
“Voting for a woman who is anti-choice, to me, would be like voting for a black person who is pro-slavery.” That’s from an unidentified, Hillary Clinton-loving Democratic delegate, reacting to the news that John McCain may put a woman (Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska, or anyone else) on the Republican ticket. McCain already has the conservative women in his camp, so picking one of their own isn’t going to pick up new votes for him there. Meanwhile, we know that Clinton supporters — whom McCain is courting with his Palin pick — are overwhelmingly pro-choice. Are they really so self-destructive that they would vote for someone as anti-choice as Palin just because she’s female? Isn’t that tokenism of the worst sort?
