According to the Telegraph, here’s what happened at the Beijing closing ceremonies today, which will not be broadcast until this evening in the U.S. “The 2008 Games drew to a triumphant close in front of 91,000 spectators packed inside the Bird’s Nest Stadium with illuminated dancers and gymnasts and drummers preceding the parade of athletes. The handover of the Olympics to London began with a rendition of the national anthem. A London bus (pictured) was then driven into the arena, pursued by Britain’s Olympic gold medal-winning cyclists Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton.

“Surrounded by dancers dressed like commuters, the top section of the vehicle peeled back to reveal a stage from which elevated platforms lifted X-Factor winner Leona Lewis and Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page.

Alongside them appeared former England captain David Beckham, flanked by a violinist and a cellist dressed in Britain’s official Olympic kit.”
