Everyone Loves Coco Chanel
Thirty-seven years after she died, at the age of 88, Coco Chanel is having a lively time of it. The French fashion designer will be played by Shirley Maclaine in a two-part TV movie next month on Lifetime; the previews have been a little scary-looking, but if Katharine Hepburn could play the Frenchwoman (in the stupefyingly bad Broadway musical “Coco”) than I don’t see why Shirl can’t channel her. In further news. Audrey Tatou (right), best-known to American audiences from “Amelie,” will be portraying Chanel in an about-to-shoot feature film “Coco avant Chanel.” Her love interest, the dashing polo player Arthur Capel, will be my old friend Alessandro Nivola (left), who has been learning French for the part. Tres tres bien.
