Tony Award Predictions 2008
The Tony awards take place this Sunday evening. By my estimation, the biggest winner will be “August: Osage County” (with Deanna Dunagan, pictured) with six awards, followed by “South Pacific” with four and “Gypsy” with three. Here are my predictions:
1) Best Play: “August: Osage County” No “potential upset” needed
2) Best Musical: “Passing Strange” Likely Upset: “In the Heights”
3) Best Revival of a Play: “Boeing/Boeing Possible Upset: “Macbeth”
4) Best Revival of a Musical: “South Pacific: Possible Upset: “Gypsy”
5) Best Book of Musical: “Xanadu” Likely Upset: “In the Heights”
6) Best Original Score: “In the Heights” Possible Upset: “Passing Strange”
7) Leading Actor in a Play: Mark Rylance Possible Upset: Patrick Stewart
8) Leading Actress in a Play: Deanna Dunagan Possible Tie with Amy Morton
9) Leading Actor in a Musical: Paulo Szot Possible Upset: Lin-Manuel Miranda
10) Leading Actress in a Musical: Patti LuPone Possible Upset: Kelli O’Hara
