Javier: Que Guapo! Viva Espana!
When I spent a day in 2000 with Javier Bardem (pictured), before he rose to international prominence in “Before Night Falls,” he said, “I don’t want to be a Hollywood star — I don’t want to be Antonio Banderas.” Well, guess what, Javier: with tonight’s win for Best Supporting Actor, you are a Hollywood star, and not Antonio Banderas. (Although Javier, you are playing the same role in the movie version of the musical “Nine” that Antonio played on Broadway. Be careful what you don’t wish for!) P.S. It was great that Javier dedicated his Oscar to his mother, and to “Espana!”
