Best Foreign Film: Austria!
In an ever-changing world, there is only one constant, at least at the Oscars: a movie about the Holocaust will generally win its category. And so it happened tonight, when “The Counterfeiters” won Best Foreign Film. It was nice when its director, Stefan Ruzowitzky, mentioned that classic-era Austrian directors like Billy Wilder had to flee their native country and the Nazis in order to make their movies in America, and that the first Austrian movie to win Best Foreign Film (“The Counterfeiters”) was about the Nazis’ crimes.
