McKellen and Stewart: Vegas Next?
The production of “Macbeth” starring Patrick Stewart (pictured, at right) made it to Brooklyn last week, after an awards-showered run in London last year. The notices in New York were almost as twinkly, and there’s talk of moving the play to Broadway. In other Stewart news, lemonwade hears that he and Sir Ian McKellen (pictured, at left) have been talking about doing a movie version of “The Merchant of Venice” that would be set at the Venetian in Las Vegas. I’ve seen Shakespeare plays transplanted to almost every place on the planet (my favorite: an “As You Like It” on a Wisconsin dairy farm) but I can’t recall ever seeing Shakespeare set anywhere on the Vegas strip.
