Late-Night Shows: The Verdict
Letterman, Leno, and Conan all returned to the airwaves last night. After I got over Senator Clinton‘s introduction to the Letterman show, and Letterman’s cough-drop-box beard, I could enjoy his main guest, Robin Williams. I could also admire the fact that Letterman’s expressed solidarity with the striking writers was genuine, unlike those scabs Leno and O’Brien, who tried to have it both ways: expressing solidarity with the scribes even as these two hosts went back to work with picketers outside their studios. I couldn’t bring myself to watch Huckabee on Leno: ole Huck’s aw-shucks demeanor has me reaching for the remote every time he crosses my TV screen. Imagine the ongoing torture if he becomes President!
