Getting Beyond “Grey Gardens”

I have to confess that I’ve gotten a little tired of the endless recycling of “Grey Gardens”: the musical was the least of it. (I shudder at the thought of the TV movie version, to star Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange.) So I’m heartened to learn that one of the directors of the original documentary, Albert Maysles, has turned away from Edie Beale, Jr. (left) and found a new subject: the pop group Fall Out Boy, fronted by Pete Wentz (right) . The 80-year-old Maysles, apparently, has been riding around the FOB tour bus, filming footage of the band for an upcoming documentary. For those of you who don’t know about lead singer Wentz: he’s a self-declared heterosexual with a messy fondness for eyeliner. Mayles and his deceased brother, David, know from backstage pictures: they made the classic Rolling Stones rockumentary “Gimme Shelter.”
