First the Controversy, Now the Reviews
The British author Philip Pullman has attacked leading American Catholics as “nitwits” after they called for a boycott of “The Golden Compass,” which just had its world premiere in London. (It opens in the U.S. on December 7.)
In an escalation of the religious squabble over the film adaptation of the first of the Pullman trilogy “His Dark Materials,” the American Catholic League claimed that the movie is being used to pursue the writer’s “atheist agenda” and should be banned. While the drummed-up controversy rages, you can read two early reviews of “The Golden Compass,” which stars Nicole Kidman (pictured), here and here.
