Rees Exits Williamstown Fest
Roger Rees, the Tony Award-winning actor who took over at Williamstown Theatre Festival in Williamstown, Mass., is departing as artistic director after three seasons, according to legit sources. In 2005 Rees (“Nicholas Nickleby”), who also has a high profile in film and TV (“Cheers”), succeeded Michael Ritchie as head of WTF. Ritchie resigned to take over as producer of the Center Theatre Group of Los Angeles, which oversees operations at the Mark Taper Forum and the Ahmanson Theatre.
Williamstown managing director Bill Darger also recently departed his post.
According to Variety, speculation is that Nicholas Martin, his final season as a.d. of Boston’s Hungtington Theater Company and a longtime Williamstown helmer, will take over at WTF.
