“Strange” Moving to Broadway
Off Broadway hit “Passing Strange” is heading for Broadway, opening at the Belasco Theater in February. Rock-soul musical, which originated at Berkeley Rep last year, won strong reviews during its extended run at Off Broadway’s Public Theater in the spring.
With book and lyrics by Berlin-based musician-scribe Stew, who co-wrote the music with Heidi Rodewalk, the show follows a black artist’s journey from his native L.A. to Amsterdam to Berlin. Director Annie Dorsen co-created the piece.
The complete Public cast, including Stew, will reprise their roles on the Rialto. Rodewald appears as one of the show’s onstage musicians.
“Passing Strange” begins previews Feb. 8 ahead of a Feb. 28 opening.
