Addio, Caro Luciano Pavarotti
The celebrity turnout for Luciano Pavarotti‘s funeral today at his hometown church in Modena, Italy was impressive: among others, there were Franco Zefferelli; Bono; the Italian prime minister, Romano Prodi; and Kofi Annan, the former secretary general of the United Nations. Pope Benedict XVI send a message of condolence. But, as always with these world-figure funerals, what was generally moving were the expressions on the faces of regular folk who stood outside the church. I would have loved to have been one of the bystanders in the photo above, which shows Pavarotti’s coffin as it left the cathedral.
