Ricky Martin’s Latin Grammy Noms

Tropical singer-songwriter Juan Luis Guerra garnered a leading five Latin Grammy nominations Wednesday while Ricky Martin and Calle 13 received four each.Guerra is up for album, record and song of the year, plus merengue album for “La Llave de Mi Corazon” (The Key to My Heart) and tropical song. Nominations were announced in Miami.

Martin, who will compete against Guerra for the album and record trophies, is also in contention for male pop vocal and longform musicvideo. Calle 13’s “Residente o Visitante” (Resident or Visitor) drew noms for album and urban music album; band is also up for urban song and shortform video.

Beyonce & Shakira’s “Bello Embustero” (Beautiful Liar) is up for the record award, competing with “Nena” by Miguel Bose and Paulina Rubio; Gustavo Cerati’s “La Excepcion”; Guerra’s “La Llave de Mi Corazon”; and Martin’s “Tu Recuerdo.”

Besides Calle 13 and Guerra, album contenders are Miguel Bose‘s “Papito,” Martin’s “MTV Unplugged” and Alejandro Sanz’s “El Tren de Los Momentos.”

Noms for the song of the year nod, which is presented to songwriters, went to Guerra, Belinda, Kara Dioguardi and Nacho Peregrin for Belinda’s “Bella Traicion”; Fher Olvera for Mana’s “Labios Compartidos,” Franco De Vita for his “Tengo”; and Mario Domm for Camila’s “Todo Cambio.”

New artist contenders are American pop thrush Alejandra Alberti, Mexican sibling act Jesse & Joy, Cuban jazz percussionist Dafnis Prieto, Brazilian singer Ricky Vallen and Tulsa.

The eighth annual Latin Grammy Awards will be presented Nov. 8 in Las Vegas.
