Mermaid Reviews All Wet
The latest Disney movie-to-live-musical adaptation, “The Little Mermaid,” has opened in Denver, and the reviews are not what the Mouse House probably would have wanted. (Read one of them here.) The show has music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater, a book by Doug Wright, and direction by Francesca Zambello. Zambello is known mostly for her opera productions, and she’s the latest in a line of creative hires by Disney for turning its archive of musical films into Broadway spectacles. She’ll have her work cut out for her to make needed changes in the show before it begins performances on Broadway November 3.
